A Real Chicago Tradition
The second establishment in Chicago to obtain a liquor license, this Gold Coast Neighborhood fixture opened on December 6, 1933 following the repeal of Prohibition. Since then, countless celebrations, first dates, business deals, and memorable evenings have unfolded beneath its warm wood interiors.

A perfect bowl of Real Chicago. Originally created by Philadelphia’s renowned Bookbinder’s restaurant in 1865, this recipe has been served at The Drake Hotel since the 1930s, delighiting everyone from Chicago locals to a Catholic Pope, Hollywood icons, and royalty. Rich with tender red snapper in a tomato-roux broth and finished tableside with a crystal decanter of sherry, this dish remains one of the hotel’s most enduring culinary experiences, and a must-order for first-time visitors.
