When the architect of the hotel Benjamin Howard Marshall envisioned the Drake brother's hotel, he saw an opportunity on the corner of Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue (then called Pine Street). He believed the Near North Side would become Chicago's most important location—he was right. John and Tracy Drake were the second generation hoteliers, the namesake for the Drake Bros.' restaurant. The dining room provides a casual familial atmosphere that overlooks Oak Street Beach, Lake Shore Drive, and The Magnificent Mile.
